Auca's are comic strips of a limited length (usualy 48 vignettes, though "Senyor Esteve" has 27). Each of the pictures comes with a "rodolí", two verses that rhyme, which gives it context.

"L'Auca del Senyor Esteve" is great to translate, since covers everyday topics, has a sweet, innocent naif sense of humor and it's short.

On the other hand, since it was intended to be a summary of a lengthy novel, it may be a little confusing and it cannot be read as a linear history on its own.

I am translating "L'Auca del senyor Esteve" to English first and Toki Pona next. L'Auca is, in fact, a full novel from Santiago Rusiñol, an Art Noveau Catalan author from the 1900's. The novel talks about the struggle of a well established family with its arts-oriented child.

Each of the novel's chapters is preceded with a vignette depicting what happens in that very same chapter, and that makes the Auca, properly speaking (a kind of comic strip popular in Catalunya in the XIX century)

I'm not a native English speaker, and I just started with Toki pona, so please, be kind with any error you might find through the article. That doesn't mean I don't accept criticism! Nothing farther from truth. If you find any error on any of my posts, either in Toki pona parts or the English ones, I would appreciate you tell me. I'm just asking for patience.

Thanks. 😃
